The children attending Nyota Ing’arayo School come from across the Kongowea area of Mombasa. This slum area is rapidly expanding and offers very little access to public education.

The students attending Nyota Ing’arayo are from a variety of backgrounds, many of their parents work within the nearby wealthier district of Nyali as labourers, housekeepers, and are often employed in the struggling tourism industry.

The school has twelve trained teachers teaching classes from KG to Standard 8. The Headteacher is Josephine Salari and the Head Administrator in Brian Mutunga. Both of these individuals have worked extremely hard in the last few years to ensure the continued success of the school.
