Nyota Ingar’ayo (Shining Star) began as Precious Vision daycare in the Shauri Yako village within the Kongowea area of the city of Mombasa in Kenya.

After taking all of the necessary steps to become a registered school, Nyota now has 350 students studying from KG to Standard Eight with twelve trained teachers on staff. From the very first day, Nyota has aimed to be self-sufficient, investing in various income-generating projects to continue to maintain the school and its excellent programmes.

Our current income generating project is a tomato greenhouse built on the school grounds. Tomatoes are grown year round, with an attempt to have them fully mature during the hottest seasons when prices are the highest. All of the profits go towards supplementing teacher’s wages, and offering a feeding programme to the students twice daily.
